This type has been given the name the Disrupted for they endured challenges and adversity more than any other type. This type consists of two parts (victim/controller). The Disrupted type come across as a type who has elements of various others types merged into one. This in turn contributes to their ability to act destructively toward themselves or others. The word Disrupted is also aimed at symbolising the different types of conflicting internal emotions and thoughts they continuously struggle to deal with and have present in their lives all at once.
The Disrupted type can easily be characterised by its conflicting desires. The Disrupted type can display a wide range of problematic symptoms. The Disrupted type were developed due to a significantly traumatic childhood. These individuals most likely suffered severe neglect or parental hostility. Some of them were also exposed to sexual, physical or emotional abuse. Most individuals who represent this type have not yet come to terms with their abuse or neglect. Many of these individuals tend to display various negative behaviour patterns such as substance abuse or self-harm.
The Disrupted type do not readily comply with either inner or outer expectations. The Controller Disrupted types can easily and blatantly ignore all expectations whereas the Victim Disrupted types will still aim towards complying with outer expectations in certain instances.
The Disrupted type don’t trust easily and can randomly lash out at someone who tries to get too close to them. They spend a lot of time being alone and unhappy. They often end up in abusive relationships.
The Disrupted type easily cover up their tragic memories by referring to it with laughter or humour in order to downplay the seriousness thereof and not to let anyone notice that it was actually painful for them. Some of these types learnt from a young age that they need to control others (Controller Disrupted Type) or be controlled by others (Victim Disrupted Type). They struggle to deal with the emotions of others as well as their own. Whilst growing up they were expected to always comply and learned to cut off feelings of neediness or being vulnerable.
The Disrupted type don’t have a strong sense of impulse control and it is very likely that their lives were filled with verbal, physical or sexual abuse. In their households while growing up they were often unable to predict what comes next and had to live expecting the unexpected. They had to continuously remain in a state of awareness for danger could strike at any time.
The Disrupted type consists of two variables: the type of person who becomes extremely compliant (e.g. to such an extreme that they will be susceptible to things such as battered woman syndrome) or someone who becomes overly aggressive and rebellious. They either become intimidating and controlling or develop a passive victim mentality. The remainder of the elements mentioned earlier are present in both variables.
